Overview of Ginger Sector Ginger, ( Zingiber officinale ) is a flowering plant whose rhizome, ginger root is widely used as spice and a folk medicine because its distinct sharp and hot flavour due to an oil substance called gingerol. It is an excellent source of dietary fibre, vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), vitamin B6, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium and selenium. Gates Foundation and Google to Bring AI resources to 200 Million Farmers Across the Global South

Google and the Gates Foundation have directed more than $100M in combined funding and dedicated technical support from Google researchers to deploy real-time climate, agricultural, and language AI tools. MOUNTAIN VIEW & SEATTLE (Friday, 18 September) — The Gates Foundation and Google today unveiled an expanded initiative to bring advanced AI tools to 200 million smallholder farmers across Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia , helping them anticipate climate risks , improve farm productivity , and build resilience in a changing climate. Uganda to build climate resilience in livestock, land and insurance systems

Uganda has launched a major three-year initiative to strengthen climate resilience across its livestock, land and insurance systems, marking a significant step in a broader regional effort to transform food systems in the face of escalating climate shocks. The initiative, part of the programme on “ Accelerating Food Systems Transformation for Resilience to Climate Change in Africa ”, is led by the Government of Uganda in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the African Union Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). General Overview of Rice Production Rice is grown widely in the country by using different varieties that are adaptable to the various agro-ecological zones. It highly contributes to employment creation in Ghana. In 2020, Volta Region covered 29.63% of rice-planted areas of the country, followed by the Northern Region with 20.68%(SRID,MoFA). Approximately, 10% of farming households are thought to be employed by the rice industry (NRDS, 2016). With a total rice cropping area of 291,000 hectares in 2020, an estimated average household holding of 0.4 hectares indicates an approximate total of 597,500 households’ involvement in rice cultivation. Key Agricultural Updates Weather uncertainty remains one of the main challenges facing African agriculture. El Nino conditions may strengthen during the second half of 2026, increasing the risk of irregular rainfall and agricultural drought in parts of East Africa, the Sahel, and Southern Africa. In East Africa, rainfall has been uneven across Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Somalia, and surrounding areas. Some highland regions are receiving sufficient rainfall, while several rain-fed farming areas continue to face extended dry periods. Maize, beans, livestock pasture, and other rain-dependent crops may come under pressure if rainfall remains poorly distributed. In West Africa and the Sahel, food-security risks remain high. Irregular rainfall, local drought, conflict, high food prices, and limited access to agricultural inputs are affecting production in Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Mali, Cameroon, and Senegal. General Overview of Cashew Production Cashew ( Anacardium occidentale L. ) consists of the nut and peduncle. Separation of the nut from the apple results in two unique products. In general, fresh cashew for consumption last for only 24 -48 hours at room temperature. About 90% of the harvestable product from the cashew tree is lost through wasted cashew apples. The complete development of cashew fruit (cashew nut + apple) from flowering to physiological maturity takes about 70 to 90 days. The cashew tree grows in tropical climates with an annual rainfall ranging from 400 to 4,000 mm, and it grows from sea level to an altitude of 1,000 m. The Cashew is cultivated primarily in India, Vietnam, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Tanzania, Benin, Brazil and other countries in East and West Central Africa and South East Asia.
