Earth Day 2021: Restore Our Earth

Today is Earth Day! Among the many things that have been a threat to mother earth and nature are global warming, pollution, industrialization and urbanization, and deforestation which are largely man-made.  These behaviours lead to extreme climatic events from floods, drought to endangering species and deterioration of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. These climate crisis continue to threaten the availability of food, water and livelihoods of the people, species and ecosystems all across Africa.

Annually, 22 April is observed as Earth Day globally and people and major stakeholders take part in various civic activities and work towards raising awareness about critical issues that the Earth is facing. The theme this year is "Restore Our Earth" and  its focus is on natural processes, emerging green technologies and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystems.

We at  Agriculture in Africa Media and institutional partners are calling on fellow Ghanaians to rise up in their own small ways and come together to engage the public, educate people about the benefits of being friendly to the environment in their daily lives, and act to make positive and sustainable changes to protect Africa and our planet for this Earth Day and beyond.
